Virtual Whiteboards: Why They Will Rock Your Socks Off

Whiteboards are a big part of classrooms, offices, and some homes all around the world. We grow up with it, use it through out our life, and create some truly awesome stuff through it. It’s amazing how helpful and influential such a simple tool can be to how we collaborate and create.

So why don’t we see similar applications on computers?

Let’s ask Batman

Well, that’s where virtual whiteboards come in! But I’m betting you haven’t heard of them (don’t worry, most people around me haven’t). It’s one of those ideas that sound super obvious once you think about it. Yet, with the flood of productivity apps that come out every day you’d be hard pressed to find these types of software amongst them.

So with its physical counterpart practically everywhere why aren’t there more software variants? Obvious reasons include “it’ll never be like the real thing” or “they’re too difficult to use on a computer”. Others become apparent with further usage – they have very niche applications and often disconnect you from your usual workflow.

But just like how word processors were once a super niche tool but now can be found on every computer, virtual whiteboards are slowly finding a place in people’s workflows. With the rise of cloud-based apps, requirements of online collaboration, and the increasing complexity of our digital content, now is a great time to find a place for virtual whiteboards in our arsenal of productivity tools. So what makes virtual whiteboards so powerful? Let’s have a quick overview:

1 – Superb Online Collaboration

What do we usually use whiteboards for? Most of the time, they are used during meetings or lectures to explain concepts to people. What makes their digital counterparts even more exciting is that you don’t even have to be in the same room as your team to use it! For teams working remote or that have clients that are too far to meet frequently, this alone should merit a closer look at virtual whiteboards. In addition, some apps even have advanced features like selective content sharing.

2 – Visual Brainstorming

Everyone needs to brainstorm at some point. And with ideas becoming more complex, using traditional note or word processor apps just don’t cut it any more. What’s really amazing about most virtual whiteboard apps is the fact that you can work non-linearly and are able to quickly change the scope of your work. Tools like Ryeboard also have awesome features that automatically organize your boards according to given parameters.

3 – Flexible Content Types

Not only are our ideas becoming more complex but they also take many different forms. While in the past most work could have been handled with just pure text, these days we have to juggle images, videos, and other different types of files. What makes virtual board applications exciting is that they usually let users work different kind of files. Need to reference a graph while writing a report? Drag the file onto the board and type away! Once you get used to these drag-and-drop workflows there really is no going back!

There really is no reason not to check out these kind of applications more. They offer a unique set of advantages that a lot of you may find useful. Your socks will get blown off I promise. Want to get started? Try out Ryeboard.

THIS will blow your socks off for sure.

PS. Yes, I am the founder of Ryeboard. Have a great day.
